The invasion mode is an absolute blast too, though you can always turn it off. They added a pinging system to both that really helps communicate with other players. Multiplayer, survival, and coop are all greatly expanded with a lot of quality of life improvements. The weapon customization alone adds a ton of replayability. SE 5's expanded sandbox and massive levels give much more player agency in tackling the levels than the previous games. Even if 4 is a much more tightly designed game, it's hard for me to go back to it. There's a good amount of people who like SE 3 the most, and honestly I can see why.Īs for SE 5, it's reaction has been somewhat mixed among fans, but honestly it's my favorite. The slightly more linear nature to the levels lets the game have more interesting setpiece moments as well that I find 4 and especially 5 lack. Definitely worth giving a try if you like the other games. You're not going to get the long range snipes in this game as in 4 and 5 but it's a great time overall. The African setting is fun and unique, and the map design is a really nice balance between the super open maps of 4 and 5 and the more linear levels of V2. Sniper Elite 3 is great fun and improves a lot from SEV2. It's an unfun nightmare on the hardest difficulty and really brings down the rest of the game. With the high damage they deal, Sniper battles turn into a excruciating game of letting them shoot you first to figure out where they are, waiting for your health to regenerate, trying to shoot them and miss while they nail you again, waiting for your health to regenerate, hoping to shoot them first this time, rinse and repeat. They are so damn good at spotting you that you'll almost never get the jump on them. The most annoying thing in SEV2 is the enemy snipers. So many games now have grindy leveling up mechanics (even including SE 4 and 5) that I find the total focus on gameplay in SEV2 very refreshing, though the game is rough around the edges. SEV2 reminds me of the types of games you'd see in the PS2 era of gaming, but I mean that in a good way. Starting with V2, I think a lot of people would find SEV2 dated at this point with its simplified mechanics and more linear levels. I love all the SE games (haven't played the first though).
